Daily Devotional for June 22nd
Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also. 2 Timothy 1:4-5
There is something very wonderful about living out a Christian life in front of your family. As you all know, your family knows you better than anyone. They see the real person; the tempers, attitudes, and changes in behavior. They see all of your reactions as well as how your words spill toward certain people. The wonderful thing about Timothy was that he was part of a family who loved God and desired to serve Him above all things. It was evident in their lives and Timothy knew it firsthand.
There are multitudes of people who claim to either believe in God or trust in God, but their behavior does not coincide with their profession of faith. As we all know by now, the way you live your life proves the genuineness of your faith. A person who is not committed to Jesus may have a faith but it is not genuine. Unfeigned faith means sincere, without dissimulation or hypocrisy. A genuine faith will not only be pure, but it will be evidenced for the world to see. This kind of faith goes much further than seeing commitment in people, but a presence and power of God that rests upon them and moves strongly within them. You get to actually experience the God they trust in.
Timothy’s family was rich in commitment to God. They were unashamed. Paul knew Timothy’s family well. He knew that pure faith in Lois was so apparent it ignited a reality so strong it provoked Eunice to trust in and live for God. As Paul saw this unfeigned faith in both women, he knew Timothy could not live with them without being unaffected. What about you? Are you a part of a family with a beautiful conviction to Jesus? What has it done in your heart? Has your family’s faith been so pure you are not only moved by their sincerity, but you’ve seen the God they live for to move mightily within them?
Maybe someone you work with or a close friend, or maybe even someone you just met has shown such an unfeigned faith that you see, not only what they say and how they live, but you feel a tangible presence and realness in them. You know God is with them by the spirit and zeal they have! This is pure, undefiled, unfeigned faith. It pushes us to be real with God. It causes us to get out of the religiosity of the world and just be real. Don’t attempt to look like the religion of the world. Unfeigned faith will bring forth more followers of Jesus. Just be real! Just be genuine today!
