The Fight of Faith – Daily Devotion for June 16th

The Fight of Faith

Daily Devotional for June 16th

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.  1 Timothy 6:12

Down throughout the pages of scripture, the Lord has made some bold promises to the world.  God has so clearly promised ask and ye shall receive, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you.  This promise is so simple to understand, but why do we not experience it fulfilled in our lives as much?  Why do we become frustrated?  It’s because we have an adversary and a fight on our hands.

When Satan opposes us, we often think of temptations such as fleshly lusts, lying, cheating, stealing, pride, hatred etc.  Does it every occur to us that some of the greatest temptations of the enemy are to tear down your faith?  When you go to the Lord in prayer concerning a matter and place your trust in Him to answer your petition, it is then Satan will begin to come against your faith in an attempt to abort the answer from coming.  Make no mistake, friend, the thief can steal that promise from coming to you.  The way he does it is to destroy your faith in God to answer.

Everything that comes to us from the Lord is by faith.  We are saved by grace through faith, we are justified by faith, we walk by faith, we receive healing and deliverance by faith.  Should we then be amazed that our adversary will attack the one thing that brings all of God’s goodness to us?  Satan cannot destroy God’s Word; he cannot destroy God’s promise, but he can destroy the faith God requires in order for us to receive.

Even though you are trusting God and His promises to obtain them, there must also be the understanding that Satan will attack your faith.  This is a strategy many people do not realize or recognize.  Are you tempted to trust earthly means more than God’s promises?  Are your friends or family ridiculing you for stepping out on nothing but the word of God?  These are ways the enemy attacks your faith.

Your battle is a spiritual one.  Faith is a fight.  Don’t be surprised when your faith is attacked, but rather reinforce your faith when attacks do come.  If you refuse to allow the enemy to destroy your faith, then God will work wonders in your prayer life.  God so much desires to answer prayer for us, even more so than we desire to pray.  Jesus said in John 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
