God’s Shadow in the Darkness – Daily Devotion for June 5th

God’s Shadow in the Darkness

Daily Devotional for June 5th

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.  Psalm 91:5-6

Although we seem to have great faith at times, there are still situations that seem to take advantage of us.  With Satan as our adversary, we continue to be bombarded daily with things that attempt to rip the fabric of our faith.  The devil has no new tactics.  His main mission is to paralyze you through fear which produces unbelief.

Horror movies coming out of Hollywood are designed to accomplish one thing; to exaggerate your imagination to produce a fear so great that the devil can paralyze you.  Satan’s kingdom is built upon lies, deceit, and darkness.  Darkness and night can have a very deceitful influence on us.  We cannot see in the dark.  Therefore your imagination can run wild.  If you are captivated by what lurks in the darkness, it could be a sign your faith has been affected by Satan’s lies.

But in the darkness, God is still God.  The writer of this psalm teaches us the remedy for terror and fear.  If we choose to abide under the shadow of the Almighty, then there is protection, courage, and tremendous faith.  In God’s presence, fear cannot abide.  When God’s presence covers us as a mama hen places her wings over her chicks, then there can be no fear.  When we abide under God’s shadow, it means that God is over us, protecting us through every circumstance.

The devil will continue to distract you and try to bring fear in your heart, but his growls and sneers are ineffective under the shadow of the Almighty.  You will not be afraid of the terror by night, nor the arrow that flieth by day.  There is no terror in God’s presence; no fear of destructive pestilences or any other force of destruction.  Satan is rendered absolutely powerless in the presence of God.  Are situations in your life terrifying you?

Are events surrounding you that paralyze you?  Fear is faith in the enemy!  Do not fear Satan or his devices.  You can choose to trust God today.  The greatest blessing to abiding under the shadow of the Almighty is the strong consolation that God is with you through everything you face.  Abide in His presence today.  There will be no room for fear.
