Sailing in Spiritual Fog

Do you ever feel spiritually confused? Spiritually disoriented?  There are times like these where we feel like we are sailing in spiritual fog.  In times like this, we feel no direction, no leading of the Lord. The winds are non existant.  No contrary winds are blowing.  But no favorable winds are blowing either.  It’s as if a fog has set in my spiritual life.

Do I have a right to constantly have closure on what’s going on in my life? Is this spiritual fog needed in my life so that I seek God or to cause me to become more stedfast in my faith in Him?  Am I to automatically conclude that my situation is due to sin?  I will say this; in these times of spiritual confusion, I immediately ask the Lord to reveal anything in my life that may be causing this to have entered my life.  The Lord has revealed things to me at times and I have had to ask forgiveness.  Philippians 3:15.

I am also reminded of Job’s dilemma in Job 23:8-10;

Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Sometimes spiritual fogs roll in our course as we sail in the direction of the Lord. However, there are also times when the Lord constrains us to get into a ship and sail to the other side knowing a storm is brewing.  Does He have devastation in mind for us?  Absolutely not!  He is continually expanding my faith in Him!  What shall I do in times of spiritual fog or confusion?  I will trust Him!  Like Job, I search for Him and have not found Him yet, but I am resolved to live for Him and when He has tried me, I shall come forth like gold!

I’ve been in these types of waters before. I’m sure you have as well.  I intend to sail through these confusing and foggy seas.  We may be sailing blindly right now, but our heading has been obtained and we will not change course.  Let us not go by feeling because our feelings are never constant.  Our faith must be stedfast through the spiritual fog.  Let us seek the Lord, keeping His word as our map.  The map will lead us through these foggy times.
