Resist the Devil

Daily Devotional for April 6th

Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:6-7

Satan has far too long bullied his way into our lives. Because of his craftiness, he lures most people into sin without much resistance.  Most of the time we feel like we are no match for him.  But make no mistake friend, he is limited.  He is limited in many respects.  He cannot be everywhere at the same time as God can.  He does not have all power.  His kingdom is built entirely upon lies.

Sin gave lucifer the right to bind us, but Jesus’ blood applied to us at the new birth removes sin; thus removing the devil’s right to lord over us. If you are a child of God, then lucifer has no more authority over your life.  His hold on you is gone!  You must understand this.  He still has access and still has the ability to speak lies, but he cannot control you any longer.  You and I are under new citizenship.  We have entered a new kingdom; namely the kingdom of Heaven.

Satan also cannot overpower God.   He cannot even make you do anything.  Since the new covenant has been ratified, he is even subject to the child of God when we use the name of Jesus.  You are no longer a pushover.  Satan has no more authority over you.  Jesus is now your King; your commander in chief!  You only need take commands from Jesus from now on.

Since we are sons and daughters of God, we have been given instruction to submit; not to the devil as we once did, but unto God. Once we submit to God, we are instructed further to resist the devil.  Do you feel it awkward to stand against satan or feel unworthy?  Your feelings must give way to what God has accomplished through Christ on the Cross.  You should never, from this point forward, allow the enemy to push you, manipulate or oppress you.  We are commanded to resist the devil.  When we do, he will flee.  This literally means that he runs from us in fear.
