I Won’t Go Back
Daily Devotional for March 29th
From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. John 6:66-68
Our new beginning as a follower of Christ is so new and fresh. For the first time ever, we know the reality of relationship because of the Holy Spirit that now dwells within us. We also know the great changes God made; the change from desiring sin to now desiring more of Jesus. Even though we’ve been saved by God’s wonderful grace, we must be aware that the devil can and will tempt us to walk away from the Lord. Even though all of us have great intentions on living for God, but make no mistake friend, you will be tried.
One of the greatest temptations is other people. We oftentimes go with the flow. We follow the latest trends and fashions. However, we live in a generation that finds it very distasteful to live for Jesus. But they would change their mind instantly if they knew Him the way we know Him.
You may be the only one on your job or in your department who is one of the Lord’s disciples. Satan will tempt you to slack up on your devotion to God, but God has placed you in that position just the same as an electrician chooses to place a light fixture in a dark room; because it needs light.
When Jesus saw the multitudes walk away from following Him, He turned to His twelve disciples and asked were they going to also go. Is there a point in your life where you would walk away? If the price is right, would you walk away from the Lord? God has an amazing plan for your life. Sadly, most people miss it by trading it in for their own desires. You’ll never be able to find the joy living your life selfishly that could come close to comparing to the joy of living for God. Instead of walking away from Jesus in hard times, let us use those times to draw us closer to Him.
