You’ve Already Overcome

Daily Devotional for March 27th

I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning.  I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.  1 John 2:14

I think one of the greatest tragedies in the Christian life is not knowing what we’ve been given from the Lord.  When you came to Jesus to be saved, you had an experience; and encounter, with God where you knew the moment Jesus forgave, cleansed, and removed the burden of sin from you.  There could be no greater experience than a person passes from death unto life.  But at the moment of salvation, God performed much more in your life than you first realized.

Many people look at themselves when compared to the wiles of the devil and bow in humble defeat.  We think that we are still inadequate to stand against Satan’s offences.  We know that in ourselves that is true.  However, in this New Covenant, we don’t have to stand alone.  We do not stand alone simply because we are never alone.

John wrote one of the most revealing verses to young men who no doubt felt inferior to the wicked one.  He said, “you have overcome the wicked one.”  Did you know that, because your saved, you have already overcome the wicked one right now?  You do not have to wait for God to give you anything else, or do anything else in you.  The fact that, right now, you are an overcomer over everything Satan is and has!

Because you are a child of God, right now you have the victory over every device, every circumstance, every plot that Satan can ever come up with.  It is because you look to Jesus Christ as the answer.  John finally gives unto us one of the most popular verses in your bible in 1 John 4:4 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.  The overcoming power is a person and He is in you!  His strength causes you to overcome the wicked one in every circumstance.
