Still Small Voice
Daily Devotional for March 9th
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:11-12
A great mystery of the Christian life is one of relationship with our God. A world that simply thinks that we perform religious things has totally lost sight of why Jesus came and died on Calvary’s cross. Jesus came, not only to redeem man through His blood shed for our sin, but also to restore fellowship; to restore a wonderful and glorious relationship with our Creator. Words cannot even begin to describe the joy there is in knowing God and being in His presence.
In many things, we often wonder if it is the Lord who is speaking to us. Elijah had just come from a great victory where his nation had returned to God in one day. However, Elijah runs away at the threats of a wicked woman. Elijah found himself getting educated once again on how God speaks. God was not in the strong wind. He was not in the earthquake. He was not in the fire. God spoke unto Elijah afterward in a still small voice.
Most people think it’s strange when a person has said that God spoke to them. Hearing God’s voice should not be uncommon to you. As a matter of fact, Jesus revealed that you should continually be in communication with the Father. If your life has been given unto the Lord and your sins under the blood of Jesus, then you understand the realness of relationship with God. The Holy Spirit comes within us. This Holy Spirit speaks unto us to guide us and teach us God’s ways.
God’s voice cannot be explained unto people who do not know Him. But His voice also cannot be dismissed or ignored by those who do know Him. God speaks to our spirit. Jesus said in John 10, my sheep know my voice… Matthew 13:15, Jesus revealed that sin in the hear will bring forth spiritual deafness. If you have sin in your life, then you will not be able to hear God. Are you hearing God’s voice today or has your ears become dull? Are you missing it because you’re looking for winds, earthquakes and fires? God’s voice is gentle but very distinct. When He speaks, His children know His voice.
