Not Just Another Religious Face
Daily Devotional for February 28th
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,..Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:1-2 & 5
Hollywood stars have made untold billions of dollars acting out and playing the part of ficticious characters. They have thrived being someone they really are not. In a world where people make attempts to put on an act, there isn’t enough time in the world for us to do so. We cannot play with eternity. The last thing a genuine Christian desires is to become a fake.
Paul warned Timothy that there would become a day when godliness would take on a form, but would have no substance. Has Christianity become a dead religion like all others? The answer obviously is no, but Paul did declare that empty religion would creep into even genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.
Does it seem as though sometimes you are merely going through the motions? Doeyou sit in church or in prayer and just aren’t feeling it? As stated before, relationship with Christ can become mechanical if our heart is in a different place than our spirit. We must not allow our hearts to be pulled from Christ.
As believers, there are times when we have to renew our commitment, refocus our hearts, and rekindle the love we have for God. Jesus warned the church at Ephesus that they had left their first love. If we’re not careful, we can get to a point where we take on a form of godliness simply because our hearts have become moved away from relationship with Christ.
Do you notice yourself drifting in your spiritual life at times and make the necessary adjustments to renew your commitment? Do you refuse to continue on with an emptiness and “hollow-on-the-inside” condition? There are definitely times when you will need to recommit. Don’t allow yourself to spiritually drift into a compromised state in your christian life. Don’t become just another face in the religious crowd. There is a beautiful walk with Jesus that He desires of us. He is more desiring to walk with us than we are to walk with Him.
