The World is Crucified

Daily Devotional for February 16th

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.  Galatians 6:14

How many times have you questioned, What is the secret to living a victorious Christian life? This Christian life is attempted by untold millions, but very few truly know what it’s like to enjoy victory over sin.  There are some people who struggle with sins, addictions and spiritual weights and never seem to break through to victory.  It’s truly sad that, even though salvation has come to some, complete victory over the world seldom does.

When Paul wrote that the world was crucified, what exactly was he saying?  The world represents all of the power of influences, sins, and effects that Satan has over us.  If you notice, this verse tells us that our glory is in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Because of the work Jesus accomplished at Calvary, the victory over the world is finally won.  What a glorious victory Jesus won for us!

The Galatian believers were struggling greatly in living victoriously over sin.  Even though they had once enjoyed victory, all of a sudden, they had started losing that victory over sin.  They had cut off themselves from God’s help because they had gotten their eyes off of the cross and upon trusting in themselves.  We cannot have the power to say no to sin without saying yes to Jesus.  Trusting in Jesus gives us the victory over sin.  Jesus is the one who conquered sin, not us.  When our faith is not just simply in Jesus, but concretely set in Him, then the power of God flows freely to us and gives us the power to be victorious.

Many people leave the cross after salvation.  When they do, their eyes become fixed on something else to give them victory.  When we behold the cross, our eyes are fixed on the victory Jesus won for us.  When we turn from the cross and attempt to fight sin, addictions, etc. on our own strength, then we are defeated.  This is why we must cling to the Old Rugged Cross!  The world only sees Jesus on the cross.  But spiritually, the power of the entire world was on the cross being disarmed.  The world has been conquered.  It has been defeated!  The world has been crucified!  You only need now to look to the cross!

Are there lusts, sins, addictions, weights or other things that you’ve wanted victory over but victory hasn’t come?  Instead of fighting those things on your own, put your faith in Jesus for the victory.  He is the one who conquered the world.  He conquered it at Calvary’s cross.  When Jesus was nailed to the cross, the world was crucified.  Trusting in Jesus will always give you the victory.  1 John 5:4-5 says For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
