Removing Satan’s Advantage
Daily Devotional for February 1st
To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 2 Corinthians 2:10-11
Even though unbelievers are at a great disadvantage pertaining to Satan’s hold on their lives, God’s people are not. We have been liberated from Satan’s oppression because of the glorious work that Jesus died in order to provide to us. Contrary to what many Christians believe, Satan can get an advantage of us and reapply chains unto us once again. We can become victims of bondage after being set free. Sin was the cause of our chains before salvation, sin will also be the means afterward as well.
As we clearly see in this scripture, Paul deals with the importance of forgiveness in light of Satan’s devices. Make no mistake friend, unforgiveness is one of the greatest tools Satan has. Paul would go on the reveal that we must forgive lest Satan should get the advantage of us. Not only do we not want the devil to gain victory over us, we must not allow him to get an advantage of us. When someone has gotten an advantage, it doesn’t mean that they have defeated us, it simply means that the odds are in their favor now.
We can live our lives in such a way where Satan does not get an advantage. According to Paul, one of the ways we accomplish this by simply forgiving one another. Oftentimes when people hurt you or harm you, their hurt causes bitterness and unforgiveness to set in. Although it may not be as plain to see, unforgiveness is sin. It will drive a wedge between you and God.
Satan has absolutely no right working in a Christian’s life. Sin is the one thing that Satan has in order to hold us captive. When that sin is removed, Satan’s right to hold us is removed. When someone has wronged you, forgive them quickly. You may feel undeserving of the harm that was done to you and therefore feel the person is undeserving of forgiveness. If you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither shall your heavenly father forgive you of yours. Satan will get an advantage and will begin eating away at your victory. Remove Satan’s advantage by forgiving those who’ve wronged you. You’ll see the devil’s chains will be gone, and victory in Jesus return.
