Daily Exhortation

Daily Devotional for January 27th

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:12-13

There is a great importance of exhortation in our walk with God. This world is wicked, deceitful and evil. It has calloused the hearts of the entire lost world. As Christians, we do not seem to think that sin will affect us because we are saved. The truth is, sin affects us all. It will callous your heart before you know it. As we read these verses, we see that sin itself is deceptive. The very nature of sin will blind you. The power of sin will influence you into thinking a certain way. Sin will make you believe a lie. Sin’s ultimate goal is to war against your mind to tear down and totally destroy your faith.

Satan seeks to eat away at our faith causing unbelief to set in. Once unbelief sets in, it will not be long before you walk away from God. This is why daily exhortation is so important. The word exhort means to call near, invite, invoke, beseech, call for, comfort, desire, intreat, and pray. As God’s people, we are asked to exhort one another. How do we exhort one another?  This is accomplished by reminding each other of God’s promises, praying for those whom the devil has discouraged, and reinforcing them in the word of God.

As Hebrews declares unto us, we must take heed to the things we have heard. Hebrews 2:1. Hebrews continues to exhort us to hold fast our confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. Hebrews 3:6. You cannot be strong in the Lord unless you are reading the word of God. The same as sin destroys your faith, daily exhortation of the word of God produces faith in Jesus Christ that destroys sin. When your faith is rooted in Jesus and the word of God, there will be no place for unbelief.

Exhortation is vital to us. The writer of Hebrews tells us to exhort one another daily. This is why going to church is so important. Hebrews 10:25 says Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
