Eternity In View
Daily Devotional for January 17th
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men… 2 Corinthians 5:10-11a
Our world suffers today from many things. People chase after selfish desires seeking to satisfy themselves for just a few short years while here on earth. The world suffers from what I call spiritual nearsightedness. This simply means that very few people today live with eternity in view. They simply cannot see past today.
What does it really mean to live with eternity in view? It means that our eyes are not only seeing a day when this life is over, but our eyes are totally fixed on eternity. It means that nothing that seeks to distract us in our focus will ever succeed. It is a bound and determined disposition. It is a heart whose purpose is set; a totally made up mind.
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men. What an amazing statement! With eternity in view, we do not see men as just another person, we see them as either saved and on their way to glory, or lost and on their way to Hell. This is really the reality of it all. This is also the reality that caused Paul to persuade men!
When we live with eternity in view, we also see that our spiritual calling of God is the most important task in our life. It’s more important than our job, paycheck, community standing, etc. We will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ. Knowing this, we must not allow the devil to distract us from the most important commission in the world; and that is, Go and preach the gospel to every creature. The reason is simple; everyone will spend eternity based on how they respond to the gospel. What is in your view?
