Are you Sailing or Drifting? – Daily Devotion for January 8th

Are you Sailing or Drifting?

Daily Devotional for January 8th

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.  Matthew 14:23-24

There is a common misunderstanding in the body of Christ that, just because we are moving, we must be making progress. It is true that progress requires that we gain ground, but moving from the place we are spiritually does not constitute maturity.  The truth is many people in the body of Christ are moving not sailing.  They are simply adrift at sea.

In this scripture, we see the disciples in a ship being tossed with waves. When you’re drifting, you are allowing the winds and tides to carry you.  The direction of the world today is downward toward Hell.  But as children of God, we have caught the wind of God in our sails that drives us home to glory!  There will be times of contrary winds when your ship will be tossed.

As the world looks upon their lives, they see how their life has changed; what life has done to them, the places they’ve found themselves in. This world is cruel.  It will force your will.  It will cause you to do things you don’t want to do and go places you do not wish to go.  When your drifting, you aren’t in control, the winds are controlling you.  But as a Christian, you are sailing and  not drifting as the world.  You’re life has a destination; a course; a purpose.  Just because the winds are blowing contrary, does not mean that you have to allow your ship to drift in that direction.  Jesus will come and turn your ship aright.

Are you drifting today? Do you feel as though you have not the strength to fix your sails and get your ship back on course?  Friend, Jesus will come and enter your ship.  When He does, He will either calm the winds or calm you!  Either way, He will get you back to sailing!  Just because the devil’s winds are blowing, doesn’t mean we have to surrender our sails to him.  He is defeated!  He is a loser!  Jesus is on your ship!  Let the contrary winds blow!  Jesus navigates me!
