Thou Shalt Call His Name Jesus

Daily Devotional for December 25th

But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.  Matthew 1:20-21

Today is the day that we celebrate the birth of the hope the came into the world. He was prophesied centuries beforehand, the promise of God’s redemption finally realized.  John testified that we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled; of the word of Life! It’s wonderful to know that God’s Son would come and free mankind from sin’s prison.

When God sent the angel to Joseph in the dream, He revealed unto Joseph that it was in fact God who had chosen Mary and had placed the seed in the woman to bring forth a son; but not just any ordinary boy. He would be the Son of the Highest!  He would change EVERYTHING!  He would be the hope of Israel; and not just for Israel, but the hope of the entire world! His name would be such a memorable name that the entire world from one nation to the next would recognize it apart from any other name.

The name JESUS! The name Jesus has been regarded and still is regarded as the most notable name in history.  Everyone on earth knows this name.  When we say John, there are multimillions of people who could come to mind all over the world.  But when the name Jesus is spoken, it immediatley resonates to a place in Israel about 2000 years ago.  The healer, the teacher, the master, the miracle worker, and most importantly, the Saviour!

The name Jesus literally means God our Saviour! When an unbeliever spoke the name Jesus, they had to testify that this man was God the Saviour whether they believed it or not.  His name literally provokes faith in us.  Whatever problem you may have in your life today; whatever circumstance, whatever valley; Jesus is the Saviour; the deliverer.  Everything; barring nothing, must and will bow to the name of Jesus.  It is the wonderful name!  It is the matchless name!  It is the glorious name!  It is the name above all names!  It is the name of Jesus!  Jesus is the name you’ll hear roaring through the halls of Heaven forever!

Since Jesus went to Calvary and gave His life as a ransom, now His name means deliverance for everything that holds you.  Do you have problems in your life that keep you defeated?  Great news!   Jesus has come to rescue and set you free.  This is the very purpose He came; not just for salvation, but for every bondage to be broken.   His name has been exalted above every name!  One day every knee will bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the father!
