A Heart of Thankfulness – Daily Devotion for November 24th

A Heart of Thankfulness

Daily Devotional for November 24th

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  Psalm 100:4

This world mostly revolves around self.  We are all advised to look out for number one!  Most of the time, many of our lives are spent catering to our own selfish needs.  Many people focus on the things other people have, instead of the things they possess.  When we focus on what we don’t have, our heart will soon turn into a heart of unthankfulness.

Some people feel entitled to certain benefits they receive.  This is mostly due to the idea that they deserve what they’ve been given.  Therefore, thankfulness is absent from the heart.  Paul warned that in the last days people would be unthankful.  2 Timothy 3:2. What a tragedy!  Even some of us feel entitled to the blessings we receive of the Lord.  We should never ask of the Lord for things with the attitude that we deserve those blessings.  The reason is simple; we don’t deserve anything we receive.

Being thankful or unthankful is all about the condition of the heart toward something we have or something we have received. Receiving anything from the Lord is due to God’s love for us and not our merit.  God gives because it is His character; it’s who He is!

Jesus taught His disciples to never feel as though God owed them anything, even when they had done all for the glory of God.  We should always look to the Lord as unprofitable servants.  Luke 17:10.  It’s not that hard to be thankful.  We just need to realize that we have undeservingly received abundantly from the Lord.  God doesn’t owe us anything, but we owe everything to Him!
