Charting Our Course – Daily Devotion for November 20th

Charting Our Course

Daily Devotional for November 20th

And it came to pass, that after we were gotten from them, and had launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, and the day following unto Rhodes, and from thence unto Patara. Acts 21:1

In the purest form of the word, the word course is used to describe a race.  It is also used of a journey, specifically a journey at sea.  The captain of the ship surveys the map and then charts his desired travel path accordingly.

God has created every life with a purpose.  The Lord had specifically said of Jeremiah that He knew the plans He had for him.  This is why men and women are never satisfied living their lives when they live it to please self.  This is also the reason why finding the will of God in our lives is so important.  Walking in the will of God cannot be substituted for anything else.  Being in the will of God brings such a satisfaction that once you experience it, you’ll never be satisfied unless you’re in God’s will.

Some people are amazed to hear of the lives of people who devoted their lives to God and seemed to miss out on many pleasures.  But the truth is, once we surrender our lives unto the Lord Jesus Christ, we can be content with walking in God’s will, with very little else to entertain us.  Joy does not come from the entertainment of earthly things, but in thy presence is fullness of Joy!  Psalm 16:11.  As a new sailor at sea, the most foolish thing we can do is to say that we know more about what course we should take than He who has been sailing for years.

God has a will and plan for your life.  He has charted your course!  You, as a navigator in this spiritual sea called the world, can choose to surrender your ship to the course charted for you by Jesus the Captain, or you can choose to chase earthly desires which continually prove to be emptiness and vanity!  He said “Be ye not unwise but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:17. There is truly no satisfaction until there is a surrender to the Lord’s course for your life!  Will you surrender to Him today?  Ask the Lord to reveal His will for your life.  He will direct your path and make known His plan for your life.

Captain's Journal sm

THE CAPTAIN’S JOURNAL is a new blog series we will be posting periodically for the purpose of sharing with you our spiritual lessons and experiences we have learned along the way in our voyages in the Christian life. The Christian Voyage is filled with great joys, wonderful victories, and triumphs over tragedy.  We will also encounter tempestuous storms and Gales!  Perils in the Deep!  This is a brief excerpt of Ship’s log entries that is geared to help us understand our circumstances and how to navigate through them.

As Paul described in 2 Corinthians 11:23 in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons ship_in_ocean_1600x1200more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 11:27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
