Reckless Abandon to Christ
Daily Devotional for November 18th
And henceforth let no man trouble me, I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. Galatians 6:17
When we were lost and undone without God, we were just that; outcast and separated from God. This separation, along with the power of sin ruling in our lives, caused us to live recklessly without God. So many people even today are living reckless lives without restraint, fear or limits. Many people walk the rest of their existence avoiding reproof or correction so that they can live life their way. That life will prove to be the ultimate mistake unless they turn to Jesus for salvation.
Paul boldly stated to the Galatian church “and henceforth let no man trouble me.” In common English, Paul was saying to them “from this point forward, leave me alone; don’t bother me with anything else in this life. I have now found the one thing in this life that my soul has longed for; JESUS CHRIST!” Paul poured out his soul to them declaring to them that his mind was made up, he was set in his ways! He would not compromise, back down or give in. The rest of his life would be consecrated to Jesus. What about you? Have you made up your mind? Have you purposed in your heart from this point on that you are Christ’s and Christ’s alone?
He continues on with the words “I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.” Paul, no doubt, had suffered persecution to the point of wearing lashes, bruises and scars. These were Paul’s tattoos. He wore them proudly. As a matter of fact, Paul said that he would glory in infirmities. 2 Corinthians 12:9. The balance of Paul’s life would be lived by serving his king with a whole heart. This kind of commitment cannot be without a sincere love for Jesus. There is a deep freedom in giving everything to God and purposing that nothing, not even death will hinder me from consecrating myself to my King who loved me and gave Himself for me!
Who cares what the world thinks of us. If they knew the touch of the Lord, they would cast off all to follow Jesus as well. From this point on, don’t hinder me. I’m marked for life! I have made up my mind! There’s nothing the world can do to pry me from the loving arms of Jesus. I’m branded! I’m going through with Jesus! I intend to see the end of a Christian life. Do you have that resolve? Are you walking in such an abandon to Christ that it seems reckless to the world? If not, spend some time in prayer and commit your life afresh to the Lord today! Living for Jesus will one day be the only thing that matters! Let us no longer hide our affection and love for the Lord but walk boldly and proudly against the direction of the world.
