The High Cost of Unbelief
Daily Devotional for November 2nd
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Hebrews 4:1-2
Unbelief is one of the single greatest problems in the world today. It is also one of the greatest problems facing our generation of the church. Unbelief will cost you greatly. Unbelief is and has always been the greatest thief in the lives of the entire world. You can’t receive anything from God without faith. James 1:6-7 We’re not talking about a faith that simply believes in God, but a faith that trusts God to move on our behalf.
It is possible for God’s promises can be preached to you, but those promises can be made of no effect to you. Why does this happen? Notice, but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith… The word of God must be believed; faith must be exhibited in the promise. If it is not, then that promise, although the Lord so much desires to give it to you, will not be realized in your life. Why does it seem God moves on behalf of some, while not moving on others? It’s unbelief. Unbelief will sabotage God’s promise from coming to you. The only thing holding the Lord back from moving mightily in your life today is unbelief.
People become so frustrated with the Christian life because they read the promises Jesus made to all of us concerning asking and receiving. Why do God’s promises remain unfulfilled in our lives? It’s a thing called unbelief. You can live the best moral life, but not have God to move on the behalf of your need. Faith is the currency of the kingdom of Heaven. In other words, faith is the one thing God desires you to bring to Him. Once you come with faith, He will give you the promise. It is faith that profits you when concerning all promises of God. How can a limitless God be limited in your life? It’s through our unbelief.
Some promises of God are unconditional requiring no action on our part because God has promised to do something and He will perform it. Examples of these types of promises are the New Jerusalem, ridding the world of sin, and purging this earth with fire. Other promises are conditional; meaning they will not come unless there is faith exhibited on the recipient. Salvations, deliverances, healings, etc. God has ordained that His promises to you be contingent upon your faith. God is standing on Go, waiting for someone to tag Him into their life by faith. Once we commit to trust God for our situation, He will unleash His power to move on your behalf. Don’t allow unbelief to rob you.
