Choosing the Lord’s Side
Daily Devotional for September 8th
…And Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come…Joshua 5:13b-14a
As children of God, we encounter many struggles and fight many battles along the way. Some battles are definitely harder than others. The sad truth is some of the battles are lost because we choose to fight them our own way. We tend to march to our own orders. The Lord is definitely present in all of our situations, but our victory will only come when we surrender unto the plans He lays out for us.
Joshua asked the Lord, Are you for us or for our adversaries? The Lord replied “Nay but as captain of the host of the Lord.” The Lord’s answer seemed strange. Why didn’t the Lord choose Joshua’s side? After all, Joshua was following God’s will. The truth is, we have a tendency to take matters into our own hands and chart out our way to victory. The only problem is if our direction is not in following the Lord, then the Lord will not bring the victory. We must rather submit our plans unto the Lord. God always has a plan. His plans always work! There’s always victory for us if we will submit our plans unto Him.
Are you facing circumstances and desire victory over them? God will give the victory if you will enquire of Him. Once He lays out the battle plans, our only need is to obey and trust Him. Marching around the city of Jericho didn’t seem like the way to victory for Israel, but victory came nonetheless. The children of Israel obeyed the Lord, faithfully marched around and on the seventh day the walls fell!
God desires to be with us in this world but will not follow our leading. We must rather surrender and follow His leading. He will be with us and will bring the walls down which stand against us, but we must trust that His plans never fails. Jesus; the Captain of the Host will not follow, we must follow Him. God doesn’t just know the way, He is the way!

ANCHORED IN THE CROSS DAILY DEVOTION
SAILING VICTORIOUSLY DAY TO DAY
I cannot stress enough the importance of daily devotion and what it has done in my own personal life. After experiencing times of great victory, followed by times of great failures, I realized that something was not exactly right in my walk with the Lord. I’m sure you’ve heard many people testify of the ups and downs in their Christian life. We hear so much of the proverbial “spiritual rollercoaster” that it has been widely accepted as common Christianity. Once I started taking time out each morning to seek God’s face for wisdom and direction through prayer and His Holy word, I started noticing that the ups and downs of my common Christian experience were no longer happening to the degree they were before. It was like I had finally gotten off of the rollercoaster.
Are you tired of living up one day and down the next? If so, then set some time aside each morning; purpose in your heart to seek God daily. If you will do this, your Christian life will become concreted, anchored, and stedfast and unmovable in Christ. It is my prayer that this Daily Devotional will help you do just that. It will help you develop a daily seeking of God’s face for circumstances you face. Daily devotion is key to sailing victoriously. We will update you when this becomes available for free eBook download in the Resource Store.
Keep sailing brothers and sisters.
