Daily Devotional for August 30th

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

Our Heavenly Father has made many promises unto His children in His word. Promises of comfort in distress, help in time of trouble, satisfaction in time of drought. The promises go on and on. There are so many good things God has in store for us. Paul said “But my God shall supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

But out of all of the things He promised to provide unto us, the hunger and thirst that so moves us is at the very top of the list. The reason is because it is the cry of the soul. Fallen humanity has run headlong chasing everything under the sun but the soul still cries to be satisfied. The reason is because it cannot be satisfied with earthly and worldly things.

There is a longing within each of us for something that we at first may not recognize. But the soul that was created by God so hungers to be back into fellowship with Him and cannot be satisfied elsewhere. However, when we are saved, for the first time our soul finds rest simply because the Father has breathed new life within us and it is so refreshing.

If you are longing within you today for more of God, then there’s great news! God has the promise to fill you! He knows after we come to know Him, we become like King David as he proclaimed in the Psalms, “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee O God!” Psalm 42:1. Jesus declared unto the woman of Samaria that He would give her water that she would never thirst again. John 4:14. Everything He has promised in His word, He will give if we will just come to Him asking.
