Feeling or Filling the Void?
Daily Devotional for August 29th
It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion. Isaiah 29:8
When we first give our life to the Lord Jesus Christ, we enter such a wonderful relationship with God. The intensity of God’s grace and mercy is beyond our comprehension. The Spirit of God comforts us and satisfies the emptiness that was so present in our soul. For the first time in our lives, we become finally content with life. Sadly, we do not remain in this state always.
Something happens to us after we’ve been saved for a while though. We come to a place where the void can return and the emptiness is realized once again. Some have identified it as being distant from God. Others simply say they need revival or refreshing. Whatever you choose to call it, the message is clear; there is a roaring silence down deep with you. You have come to a place where you are in need of another touch from the Lord. It is up to you; it is your choice on how you will respond to the roaring silence in your soul.
When most of us get to this place in our lives, our relationship with God is compromised. The worst thing is we accept our condition. This silence and emptiness should prompt us to seek God, but sadly most people enter a lasting stage of their Christian life where God is not as important as He once was. We never seek to understand why the emptiness returned or how to prevent it from happening again. Friend if you are in this place today where you examine yourself and find yourself accepting your condition, then it may be only a matter of time before your heart is turned back into the world.
Are you accepting the roaring silence in your soul? Have you become cold and indifferent in you relationship with God? Are you in a state of emptiness and wonder why it seems you have lost your fire? You can choose to ignore the void and live with it for the rest of your Christian life, or you can choose to fill the void. The choice is ours. Are you willing to sit and endure the feeling of the emptiness inside you or will you come before the Lord once again? None of us would refuse to drink water when we needed to. Why is it that we do not go to the Lord when our souls are empty? Come to Jesus today and ask Him to refresh you. Jesus has a supply of living water for you.
