Indestructible Clay Pot
Daily Devotional for August 24th
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 2 Corinthians 4:7-9
None of us have anything to boast of. As human beings, we are not capable of saving our souls, guiding our lives or finding the destination on our own. Our reality is that we are desperately in need without God and without hope in the world. Even though God knows our desperate disposition, He loves and cares for us. God is interested in you abiding with Him throughout eternity. Not only is your destination important to God, but your journey here as well.
If you are in Christ, then you have received Jesus into you. Your body is now the temple of God. God abides in you. It’s truly a wonderful revelation to know that God is inside you. However, as Paul said, we have this treasure in earthen vessels. Simply, the earthen vessel; clay pot has no value. It has no beauty to boast of. It is a simply vessel to be filled with something. The clay pot is nothing without the contents inside it. To be perfectly honest, we are nothing without God in our life friend. We are a simply empty clay pot. The treasure is not the earthen vessel, but the contents inside it.
Genuine humility comes from the simple understanding of who we are in comparison to Jesus. He is the lover of my soul. He knew all about me, yet he loved me anyway. We cursed, blasphemed, lived so wickedly, willingly rebelled against God but yet He made a way of salvation anyway. Our minds cannot comprehend this. The real treasure is Jesus!
Since you are now born again, even as a clay pot, you are breakable. You are able to be destroyed. But notice here that this world can trouble you, yet not distress you. It can perplex you, but not bring you into despair. Satan will cast you down, but you will NOT BE DESTROYED! It’s not because of you, but the treasure inside you. The excellency of the power is of God, not of us.
If you are in despair or a perplexing situation, remember that God is holding you together friend. He is protecting, watching over, and shielding you from all that Satan would do unto you. The true miracle of a clay pot is that it can be cast down, perplexed, pressed and distressed, but yet not be destroyed. How can these things be? You are held together today by the wondrous power of God. You are not going down friend. You will not be destroyed. There’s nothing Satan can do unto you that will destroy you because in pressing you, He is pressing against the treasure who lives inside you. Make no mistake, He cannot and will not destroy God.
