A Landmark of Stones

Daily Devotional for July 20th

That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever. Joshua 4:6-7

In every generation, the question continually arises, “Is God still willing perform great things in this world the same as He has in the past?” It seems as though the Lord is continually on trial to prove Himself in the world.  Although they still believe in God, many of God’s people have given up on God’s willingness to move in the world because of lies that have been spoken to them.

When God performs a work in your life, that work is always more than just about you. Your dire condition was met by a loving and merciful Jesus who reached down to you in your great need and pulled you out of your trouble.  Your life today stands as a living testimony of the power Jesus has to save to the uttermost.  God takes impossible circumstances and turns them into great testimonies for the purpose of revealing to the world how He is to do that same thing for them!

But in order to move forward, sometimes we have a need to look back on what God has already done. Most people who are delivered from terrible tragedies found faith to believe God because of the landmarks God had placed in the lives of others.  God had a purpose for the stones in this scripture.  These stones were to on display for the children to provide their children with proof that God was faithful to deliver and answer prayer.  These stones stood throughout history as a foundation of God’s faithfulness.

Has God built landmarks in your life? Are you a walking testimony of God’s love and power to save?  If you have recently given your life to God, then you must be aware that there are no hard problems that will come in your life that God will not be willing to deliver you from.  These hard spots that bring fear and dread today, will become a place of great victory if you will believe God.  The Lord has stones to set up in your life as well.  If you’ll give God your problem, He will give you a stone to set up as a landmark.  Generations to come will view in great wonder how God moved so greatly on your behalf.
