A Day in thy Courts

Daily Devotional for July 19th

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. Psalm 84:10

The world will never be able to understand your affection to God until they give their lives to Him. They may see your involvement in church activity, but cannot see the things that take place in the spirit. Christianity has never been about religion, nor will it ever!  Attending church isn’t even about doing something religious; it’s about relationship with God.

One of the many tragedies of today’s religious world is that people can experience religion, but never experience God Himself. When someone encounters the Almighty, no other event can come close.  The presence of God is so intense and gripping that nothing can possibly be compared to it.

David had obviously experienced God. Out of all the things in life he could have longed for, it was the courts of the Lord.   This was more than just to be in the house of God, but what it meant.  It meant that he would encounter God’s presence!  Friend, do you realize that when you come into the place where God is, nothing else matters?  There’s no drug, drink, carnal emotion that can measure to it!

Oh how we need God’s presence in our life regularly! Knowing God brings a love so deep that it can only be known on a spiritual level.  Words will never be able to tell it!  This is why the only proper response to God’s presence is devotion and commitment.  Once you have experienced the wonder of God’s presence, nothing else can satisfy your soul’s longing.

Christianity cannot be compared to any other religion because it is not a religion; it’s a relationship. Jesus said in John 17: This is life eternal, that they may know thee the only true God, and Thy son Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.  Knowing God!  This is life eternal!  Knowing about God and knowing God are two completely different things.  There’s Joy in knowing God because in thy presence is fullness of Joy!  Psalm 16:11.
