The World Can’t Compare
Daily Devotional for June 17th & 18th
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. Matthew 13:45-46
From the time you enter this world, you are programmed to think a certain way, act a certain way and live a certain way. Most of the time, it all depends on the country you live in or the type of family or group you associate with. We all eventually find what we perceive to be our place in the world only to find ourselves miserable. The unsatisfaction of the world causes us to look beyond what we know simply because our hearts long for more than what the world can give.
But to everyone who has met Jesus, there is a reality of peace. We now know that there is a joy so great that the world cannot compare to it. The fellowship of the Son of God is so wonderful that it cannot be expressed with words. Being in the presence of the Lord is so gripping that it drives each of us to desire more and more of Jesus in our lives. This is why multitudes surrender all when they get saved.
This parable teaches us a few things about a merchant man seeking pearls. Once the man found that pearl of great price, he sold everything just to have that one pearl. He had come across something so wonderful; so valuable that nothing else in the world could compare to it. It caused the merchant man to surrender all to obtain that one pearl. This pearl can mean nothing more than a person finding Jesus.
Once you have experienced Jesus, nothing else in the world will ever compare. Your most valuable possessions will become insignificant. Those who slander the Son of God have obviously not known Him. Truly to know Jesus is to love Him. The woman at the well in John 4 realized how wonderful He was and went back to tell all about it. Once the man of the Gadarene tombs was delivered, his one desire was to follow this wonderful Jesus who had freed him from Satan’s bondage.
This world cannot even begin to compare to the life Jesus will do for you. Give the Lord those areas of your life that you’ve held back that you never hoped to lose. Once you do, you will experience Jesus in such a way that those foolish worldly things cannot compare to the things you receive in Christ.
