The Direction of Unbelief
Daily Devotional for May 22nd
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. Number 13:30-31
There are really only two paths that can be walked in this life. The path of faith and the path of unbelief. Depending on what you do or do not believe will determine your direction. While this is in direct connection to those who are either lost or saved, there is still another facet to it. You as a Christian, have the daily choice to decide if you are going to believe God and His promises or to allow unbelief to direct your path.
Unbelief is a very powerful thing. What’s most tragic about it is that it will turn your steps that you walk for the Lord. When there seems to be odds stacked against you, unbelief desires to force you away from seeing God’s promises come to fruition. Unbelief will talk you into walking away from the walls of Jericho and say “It’s pointless to believe that these city walls will fall. Just walk away!” The only reason your circumstances remain unchanged today is because unbelief has convinced you. It takes faith to press on to seeing God’s miracles.
Believing God will always change your direction. Abraham believed God and started walking. Hebrews 11:8. The prodigal son returned to his father’s house once he realized his need. Luke 15:18. Joshua led Israel through the city of Jericho. Joshua 6:20. Even though you may be a child of God, unbelief can still lead you and rob you of God’s blessings. Unbelief is a thief and a robber. Unbelief prevented the children of Israel from entering into the promise land once their eyes became fixed on the giants in the land.
Finally, unbelief will cause you to become so frustrated that there will be a point in which it will lead you from the Lord. Hebrews writer said Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. You must not be led by unbelief. You have to learn to trust God friend. Are there walls of Jericho that stand in your path today? You have a choice to make. Will you stand and believe God to destroy the walls and go forward in victory, or will you choose to walk away in unbelief. What you believe will determine your direction. Which path have you chosen to walk?
