Keys of Hell and Death
Daily Devotional for April 17th
And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Revelation 1:17-18
As great the mystery of the work Jesus accomplished for us at Calvary was, so great also is the mystery between the Cross and the Resurrection. Your victory over Satan today cannot be through anything you have accomplished, but only in the victory Jesus won for each of us. The one thing that God asks us to do is to believe in that victory over everything that you are overcome with.
When Jesus introduced Himself to John on the Isle of Patmos, He revealed to John that He had the keys of hell and death. When Jesus bowed His head and died on the cross, He led away all the captives who died in faith before the cross. He also entered into Hell and took the keys from Satan. In the garden of Eden, Satan took the keys of Hell and death, but now they are no longer in his possession.
Death lorded over mankind until Calvary. Now Jesus holds the keys. He has the authority over these things. There is no child of God now who has to face death or hell in fear. The kingdom of darkness is now subject to the power of God through the name of Jesus. Your victory over death is now a reality.
Every locksmith makes a master key in order to unlock any lock that had been made. If he does not have a certain key, he knows how to make one. Jesus is our master key. Demons flee at His name! Now that Jesus has the keys, He alone can unlock the locks that Satan has bound you with; from the smallest to the greatest. Alcohol, drug addiction, demons that torment; Jesus has the keys to all Satan’s devices and traps. This is all because Jesus has taken the keys and holds them in His possession since the cross. There’s no need to seek help anywhere else.
