Entry of the King

Daily Devotional for April 9th

And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.  Matthew 21:8-9

We celebrate Palm Sunday for a number of reasons.  Jesus, our king, entered into Jerusalem the same way that other kings before Him had entered; riding on a donkey.  Although Zechariah foretold this, the timing in which this prophesy would take place was left to the imagination, except for one prophesy; Daniel’s seventy week prophesy.

Out of all the other prophesys of the promised Messiah that were fulfilled by Jesus, this event is very very important.  Daniel revealed, not only that the Messiah die, but would be revealed at a specific time in history.  (Daniel 9:24-27)

The Jews are still looking for the Messiah to come 2000 years later.  They say that Messiah has not come.  According to Daniel 9, this specific time would reveal the Messiah.  The simple truth is this; Daniel’s prophesy was so pinpointed in history that the Messiah had to be revealed at a specific moment in time.  That time was this day; Palm Sunday around 2000 years ago.

When Jesus entered Jerusalem on this day, there was so much joy in the city.  People prepared the way for Him by laying their garments in the way, by lowering palm branches and praising God for sending the New King.  The reason why the Jews did not accept Him is because He did not fit the mold of every other king.  The truth is; Jesus cannot fit any mold man has made.  He is the Son of God.

Jesus is forever our King.  Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of Judah which reveals His royalty.  But in Heaven when the words “behold the Lion of the tribe of Judah” were uttered, John looked and strangely, instead of seeing a Lion, he saw a lamb.  The Jews were expecting the Lion, but it was the Lamb who came.  One day the Lion is coming!  Are you ready for Him?
