Blinded With Perfect Vision

Daily Devotional for March 17th

And in them is fulfilled the prophesy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross… Matthew 13:14-15a

In the great number of calamities that befall a person, blindness is one of the most tragic. The inability to see what is in front of you or any of your surroundings is very sad.  While blindness in the physical sense is the intended subject, spiritual blindness is far worse.  This is the blindness that plagues the world and sadly the majority of the church.

How does spiritual blindness come? The truth is that through sin, Satan has caused blindness and deafness upon the world.  When Satan lures us through sin, all that we see is the pleasure in the wrong but in every instance are blinded to the devastating effects that sin will bring forth.  This is how the world can run so headlong into error because they are blinded to the dangers.

But just because you’re a Christian, it doesn’t mean you are immune to blindness. Did you know that as a believer you can lose what spiritual eyesight you have?  The health of your spiritual eyes is directly effected by the condition of your heart as well.  According to the words in these verses, your heart waxes gross through sin causing blindness of the eyes and deafness of the ears.

Sin is like a cancer. Once it is entered into a person, it attacks the spiritual man causing these effects.  This is why repentance and forgiveness is so important.  When we confess our sin and turn from it, the Lord forgives us and more importantly cleanses us from sin.  When we are cleansed from sin, then it stops the effects of sin on the spiritual man.  Healing can take place causing vision and hearing to return to us in a spiritual sense.  Don’t allow sin to blind you.  If you’ve sinned, ask the Lord to cleanse.  Your spiritual vision will return.
