Keep your eyes on Jesus
Daily Devotional for February 27th
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. Matthew 14:
Whether we want to admit it or not, our lives are much compared to Peter’s. We have times of great faith while at other times are overcome with unbelief. We’ve all had times where we could move mountains. When we leave the house of God, we have been so encouraged in the word that we believe that God will move mightily on our behalf. But after some time, our faith becomes just as weak then as it was strong.
The greatest trouble we have with our faith is where our eyes are focused. Faith is rooted in a person; Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians says Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. This means that our faith is increased by the hearing of God’s word. Most of the time, the reason why our faith is not at a level where we can believe God for answers to prayer is because we have not been in the word of God.
Peter, when He saw Jesus and knew that it was Jesus walking on the waves, he knew that where Jesus was, was the place he wanted to be. The only trouble was, once Peter stepped out of the boat and began to walk on the water, his eyes became distracted from Jesus, and began to look at the storms and waves. We cannot ignore the winds and waves in our lives, but we can choose to maintain our focus on Jesus through it all. Your faith all depends on what you choose to focus on.
Jesus will NEVER let you down. If you choose today to keep your eyes set on Him, His promises are true and will deliver you. He will answer you when you call upon Him. Hebrews 12 says Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. What are your eyes looking to? Are your eyes continually on your troubles? Are they on the storms your in or are they on Jesus? Keep you eyes fixed on Jesus and you’ll see victory come.
