Navigating in the Spirit

Daily Devotional for February 23rd

Now when they had gone thoughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. Acts 16:6-7

As a believer, you have a tremendous advantage over the rest of the world. You have a captain who lives inside you that navigates your ship.  The purpose of the Holy Spirit is, among many other things, is to direct you to accomplish His work in the world and also to protect us from Satan’s snares.  It cannot be stressed enough the importance of walking in the Spirit and being led of the Spirit in our daily lives.

The apostles lived in a very dangerous time for the church. Followers of Jesus were esteemed as the trash of the world.  God’s message of wonderful redemption was going forth into the world.  However, there were places, such as Bithynia and Asia, where the Lord had not permitted the apostles to go yet.  We must realize that God knows when and where He wants us to labor for Him.  We get in trouble by not seeking His face and running headlong into the world, only to come up barren in our labors.

We must also be in tune with the Spirit of God for the purpose of our own safety. Satan’s schemes have much success over the world because the world is blind.  Lost people have no sense of danger or spiritual warnings.  The Lord led Mary and Joseph to Egypt and dwell there until the death of King Herod.  The Holy Spirit guided Paul to escape town through a basket.

If we live in the Spirit, led us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:25.  The Lord will not leave you to get through this dangerous world on your own.  He wants to guide you.  We cannot know the devil’s snares and traps while in sin.  But when we are born again and living our lives for the Lord, the Holy Spirit is our guide to navigate us through this life.  Like modern military technology, the Holy Spirit detects Satan’s land mines and will navigate us through them without harm.  But our responsibility is to keep our relationship with God to a place where we can hear the Lord when He speaks.
