None of these things move me
Daily Devotional for February 21st
And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy…. Acts 20:22-24a
This world we live in is so uncertain. There can be smooth sailing waters one minute, and tempestuous waves the next. Most of the time, our confidence in God all depends on our conditions. This makes for a very troublesome christian life. God’s will is that we rise above this to a place where our faith is rock solid and anchored in Him.
Most of us would definitely move away from the afflictions, troubles and tribulations that Paul was warned about. The Holy Ghost warned Him in every city that He would be bound and persecuted. Paul declared that none of the things that he was warned about would move him. How would you and I react to such a warning?
Jesus desires that His followers mature into a place of where we become stedfast and unmovable. The Lord wants to teach us to trust Him regardless of what this world throws at us. How do we accomplish this? This is accomplished by keeping our focus on Jesus and His word. David said in the Psalms, The Lord is my rock and I shall not be moved.
One of Paul’s secrets was he did not count his life dear to himself. After he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, the only thing he would live for would be to please the Saviour. Paul’s calling was his number one priority. Sure Satan would attempt to stop him many time by threatening his life but it didn’t move Paul. Do you hold your live so dear unto yourself that it stops you from fulfilling God’s purpose? If your love for God and desire to fulfill God’s will is your priority more than anything else, then the few troubles you encounter will not be able to move you from finishing your course with joy. This is the secret.
