Daily Devotional for Wednesday February 8th 2017

For, lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.  But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.  Psalm 92:9-10

Every Christian knows that God places His Spirit within each of us at the new birth, but very few know that God desires to anoint us freshly with the Holy Spirit.  His desire is not only to anoint you, but to fill you with His Spirit so that you are not man-controlled, but God-controlled.  The anointing of the Holy Spirit is to empower you to do the work that only God can do through you.  When God anoints you, His Holy Spirit moves greatly within you accomplishing His purpose in the earth.

This verse is very interesting in that it speaks of fresh oil.  God uses fresh oil to anoint you.  This is a fresh touch from God.  Even though David had already been anointed king while still in the house of Jesse, he would be anointed two more times.  The early church received the Holy Spirit by Jesus breathing upon them.  Next they were filled with the Spirit again at Pentecost.  The book of Acts continues the story of the church receiving more fillings of the Holy Spirit.

Olive oil was to be used for the present time.  Olive oil cannot be stored for very long.  It must be used while it is fresh.  Your anointing is for your present need.  The oil you have received is to be applied to your current circumstance.  When new battles are being fought, fresh oil will be supplied.  Don’t worry if you will have enough oil for the task at hand.  God will pour out upon you the fresh oil to supply the need.

Fresh Oil comes from the olives that grew during the season just prior to your trial.  The psalmist declared this during his battle with the enemy.  Are you facing battles today that are greater than your powers?  If so, then you’re about to have a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit to take care of the task.  We cannot ask God to give us battles that are equal to our power, but to ask Him for power to overcome the battle.  This is where the Holy Spirit will come in and pour out the power you need to be victorious.
