Choosing the Lord’s Side

Daily Devotional for Wednesday January 11th 2017

…And Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?  And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come…Joshua 5:13b-14a

As children of God, we encounter many struggles and fight many battles along the way.  Some battles are definitely harder than others.  The sad truth is some of the battles are lost because we chose to fight it our own way.  The Lord is definitely present in all of our situations, but our victory will only come when we surrender unto the plans He lays out for us.

Joshua asked the Lord, Are you for us or for our adversaries?  The Lord replied “Nay but as captain of the host of the Lord.  The Lord’s answer seemed strange.  Why didn’t the Lord choose Joshua’s side?  After all, Joshua was following God’s will.  The truth is, we have a tendency to take matters into our own hands and chart out our way to victory.  The only problem is if our direction is not in following the Lord, then the Lord will not bring the victory.  We must rather submit our plans unto the Lord.  God always has a plan.  His plans always work!  There’s always victory for us if we will submit our plans unto Him.

Are you facing circumstances and desire victory over them?  God will give the victory if you will enquire of Him.  Once He lays out the battle plans, our only need is to obey and trust Him.  Marching around the city of Jericho didn’t seem like the way to victory for Israel, but victory came nonetheless.  The children of Israel obeyed the Lord, faithfully marched around and on the seventh day the walls fell!

God desires to be with us in this world but will not follow our leading.  We must rather surrender and follow His leading.  He will be with us and will bring the walls down which stand against us, but we must trust that His plans never fails.  God doesn’t just know the way, He is the way!
