The Beauty of Holiness

Daily Devotional for Wednesday December 14th 2016

Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty, give unto the Lord glory and strength.  Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.  Psalm 29:1-2

There are many words in the bible that attempt to describe God.  He has been called loving, honorable, just, merciful and much more.  One of the most overwhelming characteristics of God is His Holiness.  The word of God is filled with accounts dealing with God’s inability to be tempted with evil or the fact that God can never be accused of being unholy.

Holiness has been described as purity.  David declared that we should worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.  The Lord allows His people to come into His awesome presence when we worship Him with our hearts.  The presence of God is so intense that His holiness is felt the entire time.  When we are in His presence, every sin and iniquity is exposed.  Our sin cannot remain when we behold God in His beauty.  When we ask Jesus to apply His blood to cover our sin, a holiness and righteousness is placed upon us.

Holiness is also described as separation.  We see holiness in a relationship between man and woman.  When they experience each one’s love, there is a desire to forsake all others to be with that one person throughout the rest of their days.  There is something beautiful about a bride who stands before the world and proclaims her groom is the only one they desire!  This is the beauty of holiness!

The love we have for God will bring us to separation as well.  The world will ridicule you for your commitment to stay unspotted from the world.  But the truth is, holiness is very beautiful in the eyes of God.  God’s holiness is beautiful in our eyes as well.  A sinful lifestyle is a sign that a person is away from God.  But when we enter in His presence,  the cares of this world become so insignificant that we just cast them aside.  We realize He is drawing us into the beauty of His holiness and we will never be the same!
