Thanks In Every thing

Daily Devotional for Tuesday November 29th 2016

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God concerning you.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

In a generation where people find it difficult to be thankful at all, it’s quite amazing when we read this apostle’s letter. Fewer people will render thankfulness in a great many good things that happen in their lives.  Most of us, though, would find it virtually impossible to give thanks in hard times.  Paul however, had something very extraordinary to say to the Thessalonians.

When Paul wrote this letter to the Thessalonian Christians, he was writing to a people who were facing continuous persecution.  To be honest, they had no comfort that their lives would not be taken out prematurely in the midst of tremendous slaughter of believers in Jesus Christ.  It’s not easy to be thankful in the midst of hard times and struggles, but it is well pleasing unto our Heavenly Father.

Paul did not say to be thankful “for everything;” but to be thankful “in everything.”  While most people see only the storm clouds with fierce winds, there are some people who will choose to see the “silver lining.”  We may not understand why something is taking place in our lives, but it doesn’t mean we cannot be thankful in that circumstance.

It is in God’s hands that our lives are in, if we are His children.  This is the best place for us to be.  It is also the safest place to be.  God means no ill toward us.  We may be in a season of great difficulty.  Just because it may seem hard, we can still be thankful to the Lord.  Why you may ask?  It is because God will be with you in all of these things.  God may be cutting away pieces of your life that prevent you from being the image of Jesus Christ.  Be thankful.  This is the will of God concerning us.  If we are thankful in the hard times, there’s no reason why we can’t be thankful at all times.
