Living in the Sight of God
Daily Devotional for Wednesday November 16th 2016
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. 2 Corinthians 2:17
All of us played “hide and go seek” when we were young. We found the perfect spot where we knew no one could find us. As people get older, the games may have changed, but the intent remains the same; to hide things to avoid getting caught. Adam and Eve played the ultimate “hide and go seek” game in the garden of Eden, but it was a fool’s errand to even attempt to hide from God. God sees all and He knows all!
In a time when many false preachers and false apostles where speaking lies and deceit to attempt to pull the believers from faith in Jesus Christ, there were some who remained true to the Word of God. Paul declared to the Corinthians that he was not to be compared to others which corrupt, which means to adulterate; to make merchandise of. As a matter of fact, Paul revealed that he was speaking as if God Himself was in the audience, because God was in there!
This revelation of truth warrants us to speak the truth at all times, even behind closed doors. We must not only order our speech in secret aright, but our behavior as well. Jesus warned all that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. Matthew 12:36.
On the other side of this thought is something very heartwarming. It’s comforting to know that God knows everything about us. He knows the thought and intent of our hearts. Hebrews 4:12. We do not have to prove to anyone when our honesty is questioned or our integrity is attacked, but we can simply leave it into the hands of the One who knows who we are.
You may be the victim of ridicule or blame and have done nothing to deserve it. You may be wondering why people skip over you or falsely accuse you. God sees everything! God says He will avenge His elect. If you are walking earnestly to please the Lord and find yourself talked about and falsely blamed, remember that the Lord sees and will come to your defense and be your shield and buckler.
