If My People
Daily Devotional for Monday November 7th 2016
If my people, which are called by name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven and will for give their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
There are times that have come in all of our lives when we have turned ourselves away from the Lord. Because of this, the favor of God was removed from our lives. We recognized that our life was not the same as before when we committed our lives to Christ and made Him to be number one in our lives. Because of the emptiness that was left within us, we cried once again to the Lord, repenting of everything we knew to repent of, and made Jesus the Lord of our life once again. The direction of a nation is no different.
Contrary to what some may believe, the condition of a nation is not based upon what the multitudes of atheists, unsaved, and unbelievers do, but about what the people of God do. The Lord said to Solomon “If My People.” This means that the lack of rain, or the sign of locust or pestilence would be a sign to the people that their sin had caused the Lord to withhold His blessing from them.
God gave this instruction to King Solomon during a time when Israel was in spiritual revival. The people’s focus was on God and proved their commitment by their willingness to sacrifice for God, and in doing so, the presence of God came in such a great and mighty way upon them. God’s presence has always been and will always be the confirmation that He is pleased with His people.
All that is required for God to bring restoration to a land is for the people of God to return to God. As we look at the condition of our country today, let us also take a look at the condition of our hearts toward God. Have we allowed ourselves to become cold and indifferent toward God? Is God no longer a priority in our life? We have allowed a place for God within our busy schedule, but is God our top focus; our top priority? If we will forsake our sin, and turn to God, He promised to heal our land.
