The Spirit of Fear

Daily Devotional for Tuesday November 1st 2016

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  2 Timothy 1:7

Fear and terror are very powerful things that the devil uses in order to influence man.  Fear causes us to run from places and people.  Fear torments all who encounter it. (1 John 4:18) Fear also causes us to surrender or compromise in powerlessness.  Halloween, horror movies, paranormal stories are all intended for the purpose of enlarging our view of evils that really exist in the spiritual.  The devil would love it no better than for people to have such an exaggerated imagination of him and all of his cohorts.

Paul declared that fear is a spirit.  There is much uncertainty in fear.  Our imaginations will run wild when fear grips us.  This being the case, we should not submit ourselves to things that arouse a spirit of fear to come upon us or anyone else.  There is a controlling power in fear.  Fear causes us to submit to its demands.  This is one of the greatest ways the devil controls our lives.  Every representative of Heaven exhorts man throughout scripture to “Fear Not”; The Lord to Abram, Moses to the Israelites, the angels to Mary and Joseph, Jesus to His disciples.

The apostle John would give the remedy for fear in 1 John 4:17-21.  The remedy for fear is the love of God.  How is the love of God the remedy for the spirit of fear?  God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power…  God gives power to overcome Satan’s schemes.  If fear is controlling you, then it is a sign that we have not been made perfect (complete) in love.  We then need to ask the Lord to reveal His love to us in a way in which we will understand and in doing so, fear will flee from us.

Did you know that God loves you so much that He promised to go with you through everything you’ll ever face in this life?  Do you realize that nothing shall separate you from the love of Christ?  There is no scheme, no device, neither things present, nor things to come, that can keep God’s love away from you?  What can the devil ever do unto a child that is in God’s protective hand?  The devil is a liar.  Once we understand the love of God, we realize that nothing will ever be able to take place within our lives without our Heavenly Father approving of it.  Once we are made perfect in love, fear will vanish from our lives.
