Thrown Away

Daily Devotional for Weekend October 15th & 16th 2016

And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead…  Luke 10:30

Of a truth, Satan has come to steal, kill and destroy.  This is sadly the condition of lost people today as well as some Christians who have once again been entangled in sin.  The world is much like this man in Jesus’ parable; robbed, wounded and left for dead. Their lives are just a field of scattered debris left over from a horrific storm.  As a result, most give up on life and remain in a hopeless condition for many years in this life and walk out into a hopeless eternity.  A father once said to his daughter when talking about her husband leaving her, “Just because someone throws you away doesn’t mean you are trash.”  The world today feels so alone and outcast and beyond the point of no return.

As Jesus continued with the parable, the greatest problem today is religion has walked past the real needs in the world only to go perform something religious.  Religion’s focus is on self and desires that all men see how good I am.  The love of God is focused on the hurting, perishing, destroyed and to show forth how great Jesus is!

The true blue child of God is driven by a genuine love of God in their hearts.  The love of God inside a person cannot walk past needs.  When you see someone in need, do you see them as someone trying to earn a dollar or undeserving?  Much like the Samaritan who passed by, he didn’t see the nationality, gender, religious affiliation or anything else in the wounded man’s life.  He saw a need!  His choice to help was driven by the need.

Religion walks right past needs.  Those who follow Jesus will help people in time of need.  1 John 3:17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?  Satan has wrecked lives, thrown them away and left them for dead.  Will you come to them in their time of need, or leave them on the side of the road hurting?
