Nothing but the CROSS!
Daily Devotional for Thursday 10/6/2016
For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. I Corinthians 2:2
Saul of Tarsus was a man reared up under the best old testament bible college in the region; he was instructed in the “perfect manner of the law.” (Acts 22:3) He, no doubt, was in line to be the heir to Gamaliel; one of the most knowledgeable fathers of the Old Testament Law. His life, however, was dramatically changed; his soul, wonderfully saved on the road to Damascus. Everything that Saul (Paul) had been taught up to that point, was law. He was then introduced to the very Son of God and the message of grace through His shed blood on the Cross of Calvary. What Jesus accomplished for us at Calvary was, is, and forever will be the greatest victory for mankind that could ever be won. From that point, Paul, now an apostle, would leave everything behind that he had been taught by the Pharisees in order to preach true deliverance and victory through Calvary’s Cross.
As Paul wrote the first letter to the Corinthian church, you can clearly see a deliberate purpose in his heart. “I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Why did Paul determine to know nothing among them, except Christ and the Cross? Paul realized the necessity of the cross! Paul didn’t preach anything else to the Corinthians except the cross! The cross is not just a necessity for the lost, the Cross of Calvary holds every future victory for us after we are born again. When you were lost, the Cross was your means of salvation. After your saved, the Cross is your continued means of victory.
After we are born again by the blood of Jesus, we tend to leave the Cross, seeing it as the place of salvation only, and not for future victory over every struggle we face after salvation. This has been the greatest error that the Devil could ever scheme. Satan could not prevent Jesus from going to the cross, and in doing so, Satan’s head was crushed! Satan wants to remove us from the cross because it is the one place where he has been humiliated! Satan’s strongest offence to man (Sin) was embarrassed and brought to nothing at the Cross! Hallelujah! Glory to God!
The message of prosperity, becoming a better you, church attendance or anything else other than the Cross and the Blood is another gospel all together. It’s in the blood! It’s in the Cross! Some may call it slaughterhouse religion or bloody religion or something else but we have redemption through His blood and nothing else! The shed blood of Jesus is our only victory! If your lost, the Cross is the answer! If your born again and struggling over sin, oppression, discouragement, depression, or any other stronghold of the enemy, the Cross is the answer! Place your faith in Jesus and the victory He accomplished at the Cross and you will see victory come to your life.
