Hope for the Brokenhearted

Daily Devotional for Friday September 9th 2016

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted…Luke 4:18

Every person is born with such a tender heart of God-given love, care and concern for those around them. When a family member is struggling, the family comes immediately to support them in their time of need. To the child of God, the love toward fellow man is magnified because the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts. Jesus even said Love the brethren, by this shall all men know that ye are my disciples. John 13:35

We do however, live in a very cruel world. The greater majority of hurts come from people that we love the most. Even though the hurt may be unintentional, the hurt is real nonetheless. Some people go through their entire lives living with a past hurt that they never get over. That hurt causes them to forever after struggle with friendships declaring that they will never allow anyone to get close to them in order to prevent future hurts. What’s worse is that tender heart can turn into a cold calloused heart of bitterness if left untreated.

Fleshly wounds heal automatically. Inner hurts do not. They require the touch of the Master. Jesus promised that the Father had sent him to heal the brokenhearted. The world may have devastated you. A dear loved one may have passed away leaving you to struggle with that pain alone. Someone may have taken advantage of you. You may be the victim of an unfaithful spouse. Whatever the cause of your broken heart, Jesus has come to heal.

There is hope for your brokenheart. Instead of limping along through life with your heart crushed, ask Jesus today to come mend, bind up and heal your heart. He promises healing if you will come to him today. A broken and contrite spirit He will in no wise cast out. Place the broken pieces of your heart on Him today and watch as He heals and gives victory!
