Boldly to the Throne

Daily Devotion for December 22nd

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.  Hebrews 4:15-16

In times of the kings, it was a fool’s errand to go before the king unannounced or uninvited.  In the book of Esther, it meant death.  Even in America and other nations, there is no visiting the white house without approval.  Access to the throne of any kingdom was prohibited.  Only kingdom officials were permitted to such bold measures.

There was however another way of coming to the throne.  Family of the king was allowed to enter the throne with open arms.  The children of the president of the United States do not require appointment to see the president because that president is the father.  Friend, we have access to the throne of God today because we have entered the blood-line through accepting the blood of His Son Jesus Christ by faith.  You’re kinship affords you great benefits in this wonderful covenant.

In the book of Hebrews, two different forms of the word bold is used to describe two places we are allowed to boldly go or enter; the throne of grace and the holiest.  The throne is the kingship of the Lord.  The holiest is the tabernacle where we worship God.  The blood of Christ has given access to both of these places.  Why the two different places?  Because Jesus is both King and High Priest.  He is the Lion and the Lamb.  The order of Melchisedec; King/Priest.

Boldness?  You have the ability, just like the son of the king, to come before the throne and petition your father; the king, for needs you have.  We are not instructed in scripture to beg God.  If you are in Christ, you can ask the Father and He will grant you the grace you need in your time of need.  Are you coming before the throne of God with reservation or doubt?  Boldness expresses a confidence that we will have our petitions answered.  This is how God desires you to come to His throne.  Make your request known to Him today.  Your coming boldly to Him by faith will prompt a welcome response from the Throne of Grace.
