Launch Out Into the Deep
Daily Devotion for January 7th
Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. Luke 5:4-5
As every experienced fisherman knows, there is no benefit in fishing where no fish exist. We ultimately leave the fishing trip discouraged and empty. The same understanding exists in the spirit. As fishers of men, Jesus desires that we not fish where we know no fish are, but to launch out into the deep and cast our nets.
This world today is dwelling in a deeper depth of sin than ever. The church is attempting to fish from the bank in order to catch them. We must realize that we cannot reach them dwelling in the shallows. We must get out into the deep. The deep things of God. The Lord desires to use you greatly because the stakes are high. Souls are in the balance! We must launch out into the deep where the lost people are.
Jesus asked Peter to ease out a little from land. Using Peter’s boat as a pulpit, He then taught them. Once He taught in the shallows, He commanded them to launch out into the deep. Your spiritual life will not always be shallow if you’ll take heed to Jesus’ teaching in the shallows. God is always moving us; pulling us into greater depths in Him so that your spiritual depth can reach the depth at which someone is deep in sin.
Drugs and alcohol have pulled people into much greater depths than ever. Demons are pulling our people into hopeless pits where people lose their minds with mental disturbances of every kind. These things can only be resolved through the power of the blood and Holy Spirit. Let us ask the Lord today to move us into the deep where we may be effective enough to catch those who are lost in the depths of sin. Revelation 2:24
