The Direction of Unbelief

Daily Devotional for May 20th

And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.  Number 13:30-31

There are really only two paths that can be walked in this life.  The path of faith and the path of unbelief.  Depending on what you do or do not believe will determine your direction.  While this is in direct connection to those who are either lost or saved, there is still another facet to it.  You as a Christian, have the daily choice in deciding if you are going to believe God and His promises or allow unbelief to direct your path.

Unbelief is a very powerful force.  What’s most tragic about it is that it will alter your walk with the Lord.  With the odds stacked against you, unbelief turns you away from seeing God’s promises come to fruition.  Unbelief will convince you to turn away from the walls of Jericho and say “It’s pointless to believe these city walls will fall.  Just walk away!”  The only reason your circumstances remain unchanged today is because of unbelief’s persuasion.  It takes faith to press on to seeing God’s miracles.

Believing God will always change your direction.  Abraham believed God and started walking.  Hebrews 11:8.  The prodigal son returned to his father’s house once he acknowledged his need.  Luke 15:18.  Joshua led Israel through the city of Jericho.  Joshua 6:20.  Even though you may be a child of God, unbelief can still control you and steal God’s blessings.  Unbelief is a thief and a robber.  Unbelief prevented the children of Israel from entering into the Promised Land once their eyes became fixated on its giants.

Finally, unbelief will cause you to become so frustrated you will eventually walk away from the Lord.  The author of Hebrews wrote “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.”  You must not be led by unbelief.  You have to learn to trust God, friend.  Are there walls of Jericho blocking your path today?  You have a choice to make.  Will you stand firm, believing God will destroy the walls so you might move forward in victory.  Or will you choose to walk away in unbelief?  What you believe will determine your direction.  Which path have you chosen to walk?
