Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

Daily Devotional for February 25th

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.  And he said, Come.  And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  Matthew 14:28-30

Whether we want to admit it or not, our lives are so comparable to Peter’s.  We have times of great faith while other times we’re overcome with unbelief.  We’ve experienced times where we believed we could move mountains.  For instance, after leaving the house of God, where we have been so encouraged in the Word, we believe that God will move mightily on our behalf.  But after some time, our faith becomes just as weak as it was strong.

The greatest difficult we have with our faith is where our eyes are focused.  True faith is rooted in a person; Jesus Christ.  Romans says Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.  This means that our faith is increased by the hearing of God’s word.  Most of the time, the reason why our faith is not at a level where we can believe God for answers to prayer is because we have not been in the word of God.

When Peter realized it was Jesus walking on the waves, he knew that where Jesus was, was the place he wanted to be.  The only trouble was, once Peter stepped out of the boat and began to walk on the water, his eyes became distracted from Jesus, by the storms and waves.  We cannot ignore the winds and waves in our lives, but we can choose to maintain our focus on Jesus through it all.  Your faith all depends on what you choose to focus on.

Jesus will NEVER let you down.  If you choose today to keep your eyes set on Him, His promises are true and will deliver you.  He will answer you when you call upon Him.  Hebrews 12 says Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.  What are your eyes looking to?  Are your eyes continually on your troubles?  Are they on the storms you’re in or are they on Jesus?  Keep you eyes fixed on Jesus and you’ll see victory come.
