Equality of the Body of Christ
Daily Devotional for October 16th
For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality: 2 Corinthians 8:13-14
Like the physical body that contains intricate organs and systems that supply to the needs of other portions of the body, the body of Christ is very much the same. For example, even though the heart is located on the left side of the chest, its function reaches much farther than its locality. When the Lord planned this wonderful redemption plan through His shed blood, He created an amazing thing in the world.
Paul declared to the Corinthians that God strengthens certain people at different times in order to be a help to those who, at the same time, are struggling. Did you know that when the Lord freshly fills you with His Holy Spirit, He fills you not just to satisfy your hunger and thirst, but gives you an overabundance so you can have enough for someone else’s lack? Many of our brothers and sisters in Christ are wrestling, struggling and toiling during the same times the Lord sends revival and refreshing to others. His desire is that your abundance, your blessing, will be a help to those who need a genuine touch from the Lord.
In a time where many people want to hoard up their abundance, Jesus warned those to take heed to His parable of the rich man who built bigger barns to store his abundance. The wisdom of God also revealed to Joseph that Egypt should store up corn in the years of abundance so that their abundance would be a supply for the needs of everyone during the years of famine. The Lord asks you to pray for someone at times, while at other times He will ask others to pray for you. The Holy Spirit directs His children to visit others so that they may bring the blessing with them.
Where are you spiritually at today? Jesus said bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. Are you running on empty? If so, the Lord has someone in your path that can bring living water to your thirsty soul and encourage you in your time of need. Are you full and have an abundance, then you are carrying an abundance for someone who desperately needs what you have been given from the Lord. Don’t allow selfishness to keep you from sharing the abundance, let the Lord use you to help that struggling soul so that your brother or sister in the Lord will not faint or fall. You may be the next soul in need of strength and desire God to send someone into your path to help. Your help tomorrow may just come from the one you are helping today.
