That the Power of Christ may Rest Upon me
Daily Devotional for October 8th
…Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9b
Paul endured many things in his life as a Christian. He suffered much of the same persecution that he had once inflicted to those who were believers in Christ before him. After his conversion on the road to Damascus, Paul became the target of Satan’s attacks in order to keep this gospel from being preached throughout the world.
Every child of God today suffers, to an extent, the same attacks today. We wrestle against principalities and powers…Ephesian 6:12. The struggle is very real and the attacks can be magnified at times. The sad truth though is most of the time, we do not know how to endure and overcome these attacks. We almost feel isolated from God at these times, but the opposite is true.
Paul declared a wonderful truth about this new covenant relationship with Jesus Christ. He declared that once infirmities came to him, the power of Christ would be extended to him. Paul speaks of a power from God that will come upon us that will carry us through that buffeting period of the enemy. So once Paul learned this great spiritual truth, the very thing that Satan had sent to destroy him had become a place of victory because Paul knew that Jesus would be present to carry him through it all.
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; persecuted but not forsaken; cast down but not destroyed. You may be at a place in your life today where your struggle is above your strength to overcome. The Lord has great news for you! His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Are you under such a load of burden that you can’t even take another step? If so, then you are at the place where the power of Christ will rest upon you and will carry you through your trouble! Take heart today and trust Jesus! He desires to extend to you His grace, His strength, so that the power of Christ rests upon you. When the power of Christ rests upon you, there is nothing you cannot make it through.
