Daily Devotional for October 3rd
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. Mark 5:25-27
There are a lot of things in this life we run to for help in time of need. When tragedy strikes us, our friends or our family, we run headlong to the best place to get the answer to the problems in our life. An unbelieving world today looks to God, most of the time, as a last resort for their problems. We, as children of God, know that Jesus is the answer to every problem that we face today whether it is mental, physical, or spiritual.
This woman had an issue of blood for twelve years. She had tried by every means possible to get well but couldn’t. When we have a physical illness, the first place we run to is a doctor, and rightly so because doctors are experts in their field. If the need is mental, we tend to lean on psychology for the cure. The bible says here that, “When she had heard of Jesus,” she came… You may say that your testimony is not important. You may say that no one wants to hear what Jesus has done in your life. Do you realize that the work that Christ has already done in your life is the hope of the world? When she heard of Jesus, she came. No doubt, someone told her about the touch of this man! Maybe it was a physician. Whomever it was, someone let her know that there was a man in town that can take care of whatever problem she was faced with.
She came in the press behind. This was at the height of Jesus’ ministry. At this time, multitudes were following Him and rightly so. Blinded eyes were seeing, deaf ears were hearing, leprosy was being cleansed; ALL manner of sickness and disease was being removed by the touch of Jesus. This woman was unclean according to the Law of Moses. She risked everything to get to Jesus. When she touched His garment, straightway (immediately) she was healed. Jesus didn’t touch her; she is the one who touched Him. Do you get that today? She was able, by faith, to draw from the Lord what she needed. So are you friend! By faith today in Jesus Christ, you and I are able to draw from Him everything that He has promised us and He has promised many things! Praise God!
“Who touched me?” Jesus asked. The multitude was thronging Jesus, meaning there was so many people around pressing upon him that He was being touched by everyone. Jesus knew there was a difference in this touch. It was a touch of faith. Virtue had left His body. The power of God had gone out of Him. He knew that someone drew life from Jesus by faith. The woman came trembling and no doubt said, “Lord it was me.” This faith pleased Jesus. What problems are you faced with today? Do you know that He is the same today, yesterday and forever? You too can draw from Jesus whatever is ailing you today, by faith. Touching Jesus is all that really matters and then your life will never be the same. Reach out to Him today by faith.
